What’s your child’s preferred occupation? Perhaps they want to be a vet, footballer or these days, reality TV star?
Yet it turns out, if they are anything like today’s current workforce, they will grow up wanting to be accountants!
Insurer and protection specialist LV= asked 5,000 workers to name the 10 key features of the job they rated most highly.
Excitement fell far below security, salary and benefits, with just 4% of the working nation seeing it as essential.
Researchers then questioned people on how their own jobs compared to an ideal and found that of 60 professions, none scored more highly across the board than accountancy.
The job scored highest on job security, training, salary in line with responsibility and opportunities to progress, while stress levels were seen as moderate compared with other careers.
The perception of job security is supported by official figures from the Office for National Statistics. Over the last decade, the number of accountancy jobs has risen by a third – from 145,000 in 2003 to 180,000 in 2013 – making it a desirable career for those who value stability.
